Health Problems in Scottish Fold Cats

 Scottish Folds are cats with minimal grooming and health issues.However every cat breed can develop health issues some can be general while others can be specific to such breeds.Scottish Folds are generally healthy and do not suffer from most of genetic disorders present in feline world.However here are some diseases explained your Scottish Fold may suffer from.

                                                              Breeding Scottish Folds need some extra care.All Scottish Folds do not born with folded ears.To have healthy Scottish Fold it is necessary for one of the parents to be straight eared.For this reason it is allowed to breed a Scottish Fold to American or British Shorthaired cat breeds.Osteochondrosystrophy is a bone disorder whose chances increases if two Scottish Folds are bred with each other.The disease in the first few months after kittens are born.Once it occurs causes severe pain in joints.The joints face massive friction and pain.The tail would be small and thick and would be unable to help cat in balancing the body.This disease in not curable.Always confirm the bloodline before purchasing a kitten.

                                                                         This is a well know heart disorder.Scottish Fold cats have tendency to develop Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.This particular heart disease affects almost all members of feline world.This disease is caused by thickening of the inner heart muscle that prevents the normal blood flow and affect the working of heart.This disease can also appear in early days of kitten and can cause immature death.A cat needs a yearly scan to keep it confirmed that it is not suffering from HCM.
Ear Mites:
                  Scottish Folds ears are unique and sensitive too.They need to be checked regularly as they can carry mites because they are closed and an owner might be unaware of them.
