How to Groom a Shih Tzu?

 Shih Tzu dogs are less maintenance dogs in some other ways but when it comes to grooming they are totally different.Shih Tzu needs regular grooming and it surely takes significant amount of time.Shih Tzu are not easy to groom at all they have silky long-haired coat that needs to be brushed daily.It is better for you to contact a nearby professional groomer if you are a new Shih Tzu owner.It would definitely take some time to become use to with this dog breed's grooming requirements.Here are some tips and suggestions that may help you grooming your little bug.

GROOMING BY HAIR BRUSH:
                                                       Shih Tzu need daily grooming because of their silky long haired coat.They are delicate and special care must be taken while grooming them by hair brush.Always use a metal tooth comb specially made for pets.You can start the grooming section by hand by slowly massaging by hand.In this way you can feel any loss of hair on a specific part of coat or any kind of rashes if occurred.This will also allow you to feel any kind of lumps or bumps present.You can first use a wide toothed hair brush and after that a narrow one.Don't rush in any case as it may hurt the coat if hairs are tangled somewhere due to dirt or less grooming.Daily brushing will help you maintaining your Shih Tzu coat shine.

BATHING:
                       Bathing can be a difficult task because of the long haired coat.Bathing is one of the most important section but the question is how often they need bathing?.But giving your dog bath often is not a healthy thing to do as it removes the essential oils from their skin that are necessary to prevent many skin problems and to keep the coat shiny and healthy.Once a week for a Shih Tzu which doesn't get dirty often would be enough.Try to use a good quality shampoo and special care should be taken near eyes,nose and ears as shampoo may bring harm to them.You may need a helper in this section also.Don't let your dog out in direct sun exposure after bath.Try to clean the coat with a towel or a hair dryer can also be used.Do not brush the coat again if not completely dried.It may take almost 40 minutes for the coat to become completely dry.

CLEANING THE TEETH:
                                          Almost all pets don't like this section.Special care must be taken try to use a soft toothbrush and a medicated toothpaste.Move the brush gently over canines.Try to brush your Lab's teeth around 4-6 minutes.You can get toothbrush and toothpaste specially designed for dogs from a nearby pet store.
                                          

CLEANING THE EARS:
                                           Ears should be checked regularly as their is always danger of the occurrence of mites.Usually the sign for having mites is the excessive scratching of ears.You need to consult a veterinary specialist in such case.Try to use a cotton bud or wet wipes and roll it gently inside the ears so it can carry the maximum dirt with it.Try to repeat the process for 4-6 minutes.  

CLEANING THE EYES:
                                         Eyes are the most sensitive part.Try to use a cotton dipped in a lubricant ex.Water or Hydrogen Peroxide and roll it gently around the corner of eyes.You don't need to push anything at all.By repeating the process 5-10 times you will see all the dirt coming out.

CUTTING UNNECESSARY HAIR:
                                                        Shih Tzu have quick hair growth and they need to be trimmed.Specially the hairs at the forehead may cause problem for eyes.You can also trim hairs to give your Shih Tzu a specific and unique hair style of your choice.However there is no need of excessive trimming as once in a month would be enough.

CLIPPING THE HAIR:
                                      You can use any colorful hair clip to give your Shih Tzu a nice and unique look.
