Health Problems in Great Danes

  Every dog breed is prone to some health disorders some are specifically related to that breed while others may appear due to unhygienic conditions or unsuitable environment.That is the reason no dog breed can be called fully healthy or not prone to any disease.Great Danes are prone to some health disorders that are genetic while they are also prone to some heart diseases.Their bigger size.However it is true that the bigger the body the more heart needs to works and therefore can cause heart problems specially in later ages.Here are some diseases explained Great Danes are prone to.By knowing these one may save his/her dog from later bigger damage.

HIP DYSPLASIA:
                                      This is an inherited disease most of the dog breeds suffer from.Great Danes are also prone to Hip Dysplasia.This is a hip joint disorder and mostly occur in dogs in the form of Canine Hip Dysplasia.Actually a hip joint has two main components a ball and a socket.In this disease the ball and socket in the hip joint does not fit together as a result are no longer able to bear the pressure and cause massive friction in joints.This disease usually appears in the early age of a dog's life.It can badly affect the physical activity of your dog and would gradually make it too weak.

WOBLLERS SYNDROME OR CERVICAL SPONDYLOMYELOPATHY:
                                                                                                                                   Wobblers syndrome is a disorder related to vertebrae and breeds of large size have been seen more prone to this specially Great Danes.In this disease spinal cord roots are affected that helps the neck to be at right position and to help in balancing the whole body.This causes severe pain in neck and as the disease name shows causes instability on movement.This disease also has neurological effects.Main symptoms of the disease includes neck pain and weakness.

BLOAT:
          This disease appears due to the excess of gas in stomach and can cause death in severe cases.This disease is commonly known a as bloat.When the pressure in the abdomen increase to an abnormal extent the stomach twists and a dog your dog is not able to vomit and tries to find a suitable posture to reduce the pain.The disease may also cause a specific organ death in your dog.

CARDIOMYOPATHY:
                                        Great Danes have tendency to develop Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.This particular heart disease affects cats as well as dogs.This disease is caused by thickening of the inner heart muscle that prevents the normal blood flow and affect the working of heart.This disease can also appear in early days of puppyhood and can cause immature death.A puppy needs a yearly scan to keep it confirmed that it is not suffering from HCM.

HYPOTHYROIDISM:
                                              This is disease is simply the deficiency of thyroid hormones.This simple looking disease have complex and diverse effects.Thyroids hormones are produced by Thyroid glands that are essential for every cell of the body to perform properly.These hormones keeps metabolism at significant rate that is important to change the food into energy and other basic body functions.Thyroid glands are present right near the Voice Box.Damage caused by Hypothyroidism is inversely proportional to production of Thyroid hormone.Hypothyroidism directly affects body development.The disease may occur due to genetic reasons and may also occur due to depression and other conditions like traveling and separations.Hypothyroidism leads to many other diseases so it's always better to have your dog's blood tested at least once in a year.

PROGRESSIVE RETINAL ATROPHY:
                                                                    It is an inherited disorder of the retina of the eye usually given resemblance to film used in camera.This disease does not occur at a specific age and   the dog suffering from this does not feel any pain.However the disease usually occurs in both of the eyes and gradually makes the dog completely blind.Almost all dog breeds has been seen suffering from this disease.

CATARACTS:
                          This is also an eye disorder.This disease appears in the lens of the eye that an eye use to focus.In this disease the eye lens loses it's transparency and makes blurred images.In worse cases the whole vision becomes unclear.This actually happens due to the disturbance in significant  amount of water and proteins that are essential for an eye lens to work.

Expect the diseases described above Great Danes can be prone to some other bone disorders or other health problems.However better care and proper attention are surely the key to keep you dog away from any health disorders.
